PUBLISHER’S THOUGHTS
If you’re like me, you’re never satisfied with the status-quo. Trained as an Architect, I spent more than 30 years looking at the built environment, studying how we interact with it and trying to improve our living and working conditions through thoughtful design. We can do things to make our condition better. I think back to 1977, when Howard Beale (Peter Finch), issued the famous “I’m mad as hell,” speech.
Everywhere I look, I see wonderful things, but I also see enormous room for improvement. It’s just the way I was built; the way I look at the world. This is a particularly difficult affliction for an architect. As a person who is extremely self-critical, I see every mistake in my designs. Everything short of perfection screams out at me making me feel as though I’ve failed. If you’re like me, trying to change your design flaws in a building (after it’s been constructed). is an exercise in futility. Unless of course, the building you’re trying to change is your own.
So now I find myself in a position to truly affect change. To take the status-quo and throw it out the window. It doesn’t just have to be children who have the dream to change our world.
I believe that too many of us merely accept the status-quo and don’t stop long enough to challenge it. Here, on this website, I ask you to take a few minutes out of your busy day to stop and think about the world around you.
- Is where we are, where you want to be?
- Is where we’re going, where you want to go?
Now, take those thoughts, and share them here. My opening statement is “A woman’s place is in the home.” At one time, this wasn’t even questioned. It was simply accepted as the way it is. Well, it isn’t anymore. People stopped and changed.
